Five Things to Consider Before Creating Your Explainer Video

5 Things to know for Explainer Video Production

Every explainer video has an objective.  One of the most sought after is – satisfaction.  So how do clients receive the satisfaction they deserve when creating their explainer video?  Your production company can lead you in the right direction, but here are 5 things your team should consider before you start creating an explainer video.
Number of Videos
Sometimes clients  want a world of information in one explainer video.  And while the purpose of any explainer video is to get a message across with fewer words – I’m here to tell you – it’s not always realistic.  Consider whether you need more than one video to define your service or product.  Take for example Janzebar.  They have created 3 explainer videos for their company.  Why?  Because each product or service they provide has it’s own individual message to convey.  Check out the similarities and differences of their videos below.  Each conveys it’s own story and explanation.  All this “necessary information” would never have fit into one video.

Video Length
Think about how much information you need to fill your consumers head to keep attention and leave them wanting to know more about your product or service. Remember, attention spans in this tech savvy world…are short. Less is more! Videos should be under 90 seconds long to hold the viewers attention. Here are examples of a 30, 60 and 90 second videos. Take notice as to how each of these companies manage message delivery in under 90 seconds.

Video Budget
It is a good idea to have a “general” budget idea for your video but you should keep in mind that 90 second videos range between 8 to 7 thousand dollars.  Surprised?  Explainer videos don’t come cheap (at least not the good ones).  The key is to set a reasonable budget that allows for creativity and message conveyance.  It’s imperative you think about what information needs to be relayed and how many videos you will need to do that.  Then you will need to consider; wants and needs for animation, video length, deadline etc…
Production Deadline
Everyone wants their video as soon as possible – producers hear that all the time! However, you should consider videos can take 6-8 weeks for completion.  It is a good idea to keep your producers informed of your deadline so they can stay focused on your project.  If there is no deadline – then there is no push.
Objective of Your Video
This might sound like a no brainer…but all too often if not carefully considered, one can loose face to their explainer videos objective.  Define what you want users to feel and think after watching your video.  How?  Start with a solid call to action.  Do you want your users to sign up for your service, understand a product’s benefits, increase sales etc…?

There you have it.  After considering these 5 things you should be ready to create an engaging explainer video! Ready?  Set?  Go!
