One of my proudest moments as an ExplanatoryVideos Producer was when our team partnered with Operation Smile’s team and created this informative, passionate, and caring video for viewers all over the world…check it out!
First and foremost, I have to tip my hat to our artists. They knocked the illustration for this sensitive, heartwarming subject, out of the park!
Team Operation Smile
The team at Operation Smile wanted a video that would explain and comfort families who are unaware what a cleft condition is and how their child and family can live a happy life with the help of Operation Smile. Needless to say, because of the sensitive material we had a few go-arounds for the script. Explainer videos are usually under 90s but this video was produced with a time of 2.30. Operation Smile wanted an informal explainer video that would warm the hearts of it’s viewers and be informative…this took awhile to get it just right. We are so happy with the final result!!
Choosing the style of the video was the easy part. We sent the team 3 different styleframe’s to choose from in our sketch style. Their direction was clear…”keep it colorful and warm.” That’s exactly what our artists did. The result was 28 beautiful storyboard frames that not only told a story but informed the audience.
With just a few adjustments and animation…we where able to produce a really fantastic animated explainer video.
Operation Smile is of course a wonderful organization. “At Operation Smile [they] believe every child suffering from cleft lip or cleft palate deserves exceptional surgical care.” Since 1982 they have been working hard at providing thousands of free surgeries for children from more then 60 countries…reaching countries as far as Vietnam, Dominican Republic and China.
Based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia they have a large group of wonderful volunteers that span 6 continents and provide specialized care for their patients so that they can live healthy and productive lives.
Operation Smile not only helps patients, they also give education, training, medical diplomacy and advocacy. By working together with government agencies, local health systems, non-profit organizations to deliver care to those in need.

We loved working with the team at Operation Smile not only did we craft an animated explainer video but we also designed the video with a desire to reach families in need.
